Living in Tabacalera

Tabacalera is a hard neighborhood to picture in a house: Revolución Metro sits inside the colonia, the plaza around the Monumento a la Revolución gives it an open, walkable center, and the buildings that ring both spaces went up as apartment blocks, not single-family homes. The area suits renters who want to walk to Revolución Metro or catch the Metrobús along Insurgentes or Reforma, and don't mind office-lunch crowds on weekdays; the interior streets, one or two blocks from Reforma or Insurgentes, are quieter than the perimeter suggests. For a similarly central option with more to choose from, properties for rent in Juárez, just across Reforma, is worth a look.

What to consider before renting

There are no rental houses in Tabacalera at the moment: it's a colonia built up around apartment buildings, and that's a structural feature of the area rather than a temporary shortage. None of the immediately adjacent colonias have many rental houses either, but properties for rent in San Rafael, just across Insurgentes, is the closest option worth checking, and it tends to run a bit cheaper than Tabacalera besides. If a house is non-negotiable, expect to search further out from central Cuauhtémoc.
