Living in La Magdalena Contreras

Houses define most of La Magdalena Contreras outside the San Jerónimo corridor, spread across wooded hillsides and small pueblos rather than one uniform grid. Toward the slopes climbing to Los Dinamos, properties for rent in Lomas Quebradas offer cooler, tree-covered streets built around larger lots. Closer to the old town center, properties for rent in Barrio San Francisco keep a village feel near the former textile mills along the Río Magdalena. Renters after a house here are choosing a quieter, greener pace of life over the density of San Jerónimo further north.

What to consider before renting

Toward the southern edge, properties for rent in Héroes de Padierna sit closer to Periférico and Luis Cabrera, a more accessible option than the hillside streets further west. Renters who want a similarly wooded, house-first setting with a broader range to compare often look east into Tlalpan, which borders the borough toward Ajusco. Anyone drawn to San Jerónimo instead will find that corridor built around apartments rather than houses.
