Living in Mexico City (CDMX)

Houses in CDMX are a western and southern story. In the hills, Lomas de Chapultepec and Bosques de las Lomas mean walled gardens, ravines and a car for everything. In the south, Coyoacán and Tlalpan offer trees, cobblestones and street life at a gentler pace. Closer in, Anzures keeps older houses within walking distance of Reforma, which is rare this near the center.

What to consider before renting

A house here almost always means a car, and a car in CDMX means the emissions check (verificación) and the Hoy No Circula rules, which also apply to visitors with out of state plates. Gardens, cisterns and gates come with upkeep, so agree from the start on who maintains what. The hills are also the priciest place to rent a house in the city; further south, La Magdalena Contreras trades commute time for a garden and cooler air.
