Anyone specifically set on a house usually broadens the search to a nearby colonia like Cuauhtémoc, just southwest across Eje Central, though even there apartments dominate. The natural option in Centro itself is renting an apartment, most of them inside historic buildings near the Zócalo or Madero street, some already updated inside and others still carrying the original layout from when they were built.

What to consider before renting

Since houses are not consistently available in this neighborhood, it is worth also looking at apartments if living right in the historic core matters most, or looking toward neighborhoods with more houses if the housing type matters more than the exact location. Anyone who wants to stay close can check properties for rent in Doctores, just south across Eje 1 Sur, though it is not a house heavy area either. The more realistic option for anyone set on a house is usually a neighborhood further from this first historic square.
