Living in Roma

Apartments are the heart of Roma's rental market. You'll find everything from restored porfirian buildings with high ceilings and original tile to newer mid-rise units, concentrated in Roma Norte around Álvaro Obregón, Plaza Río de Janeiro and the Mercado de Medellín. It's a neighborhood built for walking, with cafés, galleries and Metro Insurgentes and Metrobús close at hand. Furnished apartments are especially common here, which makes it a practical landing spot for people moving from abroad. What to consider before renting

Since much of Roma Norte is a protected heritage area, older buildings keep their charm but may have limits on modifications, and elevators aren't a given in early-century construction. Metered parking (parquímetro) is widespread and street spots are scarce, so confirm whether a spot is included. Given the soft soil and the 2017 earthquake, it's fair to ask about a building's condition and any reinforcement.
