Living in Lomas de Chapultepec

Lomas de Chapultepec was laid out in the 1920s as a garden suburb, and a century later it still reads that way: curving, tree-lined avenues that follow the hills, deep lots, and embassies tucked between family homes. What sets renting here apart is the balance: houses and apartments come up in almost equal measure, something nearly no other colonia in the city can say. Apartments cluster along Paseo de las Palmas and the Reforma corridor that enters the colonia at the Fuente de Petróleos, while the interior streets stay leafy and quiet. Across Periférico, Polanco trades that calm for street life and walkable restaurants.

What to consider before renting

There is no Metro station in the colonia, so daily life runs on a car; Reforma, Palmas and Periférico jam at rush hour while the streets behind them stay calm. If you want a house with a garden, this is one of the few colonias where that search is realistic, though houses for rent in Lomas de Chapultepec cost well above an apartment. If apartment living suits you better, Bosques de las Lomas, on the Cuajimalpa side of the barranca, publishes far more apartments than houses.
