Living in Tulum
The Tulum archaeological site, on a cliff over the Caribbean a few kilometers from downtown, is the city's best-known landmark. Beyond it, daily life centers on Tulum Centro, where shops, restaurants, and bars cluster along Avenida Tulum and can be reached on foot. Newer zones sit farther inland, connected by Avenida Cobá, which also serves as a bike route. In La Veleta, Calle 7 has become its own corridor of cafés and bars. Toward the airport highway, Aldea Tulum is a large planned community, different from the smaller buildings near downtown.
What to consider before renting
Rental setups vary by area: buildings near the town center tend to be simpler and close to daily services, while developments farther out include more shared amenities and furnished, longer-stay units. In some newer residential zones, street paving and infrastructure can vary from block to block depending on how each section was developed, so access depends a lot on where within the area a specific property sits.
