Living in Huixquilucan
Huixquilucan's name comes from the Nahuatl for "place full of edible thistles," a farming municipality on the western edge of Mexico City that grew, over the past few decades, into one of the wealthiest suburbs in the metro area. Interlomas anchors the corporate and retail core, built up around Universidad Anáhuac and Hospital Ángeles, while Bosque Real, a large private development with its own security and utilities, leads the newer gated corridor further out along the Autopista México-Toluca. That same highway also leads to La Marquesa, the forested national park that gives much of the municipality's western half its wooded, mountain feel.
What to consider before renting
Furnished units are common in La Herradura specifically, one of the older, more established sections, while most of the rest of the municipality leans unfurnished. The Autopista México-Toluca is the main link to Mexico City, so budget extra time for the commute at rush hour, especially from the developments furthest from Interlomas. The altitude here runs higher than most of the metro area, so nights stay cool year-round, worth keeping in mind if you're moving from a warmer part of the city.
