Buying in Santa Fe
Santa Fe was built from the 1990s on exhausted sand mines at the western edge of the city, which is why the zone reads as a set of plateaus and ravines rather than a grid. It covers about ten colonias across two alcaldías, and buying here means picking one: Santa Fe La Loma is the gated high end, Santa Fe Cuajimalpa runs west toward the forest, Lomas de Santa Fe and the towers around Santa Fe Centro Ciudad are the more reachable end, and older colonias such as Santa Fe Peña Blanca predate the whole development.
What to consider before buying
The zone is split between Álvaro Obregón and Cuajimalpa, roughly along the Centro Santa Fe mall, so two different alcaldías handle permits and services depending on which side you land on. Water is worth asking about early: how the building is supplied and whether it depends on deliveries. Day to day you resolve almost everything by car: the mall and the big supermarkets are minutes away but not on foot, and the México-Toluca highway, Prolongación Paseo de la Reforma and the Supervía Poniente are the three ways out. For an established address closer to central Mexico City, with older houses and a shorter run to Reforma, Bosques de las Lomas is the usual comparison.
