Living in Tabacalera

Tabacalera fills the triangle traced by Paseo de la Reforma, Avenida de los Insurgentes and Puente de Alvarado, next to the Monumento a la Revolución and its open plaza. Revolución Metro (Line 2) sits inside the neighborhood at Puente de Alvarado and Ponciano Arriaga, and the Metrobús borders it on two sides (Line 1 along Insurgentes, Line 7 along Reforma), with the Plaza de la República stop on Line 1 a few minutes from the monument. Weekdays bring office workers out for lunch along Reforma; step onto the interior streets and the noise drops off fast. Renting here means apartments almost across the board, many furnished for shorter stays. For more restaurants and nightlife right outside the door, apartments for rent in Juárez sit just across Reforma, at a higher price.

What to consider before renting

Rental houses are close to nonexistent in Tabacalera: it's a building-dominated neighborhood, not a temporary gap, and no adjacent colonia has much in the way of rental houses either. If a house matters more than the address, widen the search to properties for rent in San Rafael, which also runs a bit cheaper. On apartments, rents here land close to Juárez and above Centro or Guerrero, a direct result of sitting between two of the city's busiest avenues. Ask how far a unit sits from Reforma or Insurgentes before signing; a block or two inward changes the noise considerably.
