Living in Playas de Rosarito

Playas de Rosarito is a strip of coast rather than a single town. Mexico 1 becomes Boulevard Benito Juárez as it runs past the beach, and most of what you can reach on foot sits along it. Rosarito Centro keeps you a few blocks from the sand, the Rosarito Beach Hotel and the boulevard restaurants, and it is the easiest place to catch the calafias, the shared vans that run the coast. Punta Azul sits just inland at the southern edge of town, off the through traffic but still within walking distance of the beach strip. A few kilometers north, Vizcaíno Residencial and Lucio Blanco belong to the inland belt, where the ocean is a drive rather than a view.

What to consider before renting

Baja California has no passenger rail, and the calafias (shared coastal vans) concentrate on Boulevard Benito Juárez and the corridor toward Tijuana. Head south and that stops being enough: Mar de Puerto Nuevo I sits beside the lobster restaurants about fifteen kilometers down the coast, and every errand there means driving. Closer in, Playa Encantada is a small pocket facing the water, quiet in a way the boulevard never is. The border is the other question: San Ysidro is roughly half an hour off when the roads are clear, but the northbound wait, not the distance, decides whether crossing daily works.
