Living in Zapopan

The apartment towers cluster along Av. Patria and Av. Acueducto, where Puerta de Hierro put the Andares mall, offices and hotels within a few blocks of each other, and Puerta del Valle and Valle Real continue it north. Buildings here compete on amenities, so the gym, pool and coworking downstairs come with the rent. Nearer Guadalajara, Ciudad Granja offers the same idea for less. The corridor works as a self-contained district: you can live, work, shop and eat within a few blocks of it without ever crossing into the city proper.

What to consider before renting

This corridor was built around the car and has no light rail within walking distance, so factor in parking and what a second car would cost you. Ask which way a unit faces and how the building drains: Patria and Acueducto have documented flood points, and heavy rain reaches the streets around Andares. Weekday traffic on Patria and López Mateos is the other daily cost. If being able to walk or take the train matters more than the amenity package, the central colonias of Guadalajara are the trade to consider.
