Living in Progreso

Progreso Centro carries the identity of the working port that gave the town its start in 1871: the malecón, the municipal market, and the pier sit inside a town still built around port life. Chicxulub Puerto, eight kilometers east, has a different identity altogether: a small pueblo named after the Chicxulub crater, the site where a meteor struck off this coast millions of years ago, with the Sendero Jurásico trail nearby.

What to consider before renting

Building age varies block by block downtown, with construction from the port's early years standing next to more recent buildings. Progreso Centro keeps the scale and activity of a working port town; Chicxulub Puerto centers on its own small plaza and pier rather than downtown's.
