The municipality of Chemax is located in the easternmost part of the state of Yucatán, just like Tizimin, and borders the following municipalities: to the north with Temozón and the municipality of Tizimin, to the south with Valladolid, to the east with the state of Quintana Roo, and to the west also with Valladolid.

Chemax, which in the Maya language means "monkey tree", is a locality situated in the east of the state of Yucatán, Mexico. It has been the head of the homonymous municipality since 1918. Its foundation took place in 1549, when an encomienda was created in favor of Juan López de Mena.
