House "Fireflies in the San Sebastián Neighborhood, in the Center of Mérida

The San Sebastián neighborhood is one of the oldest settlements from the colonial era, consolidated in the 18th century after the opening of the Royal Road to Campeche in 1790. Its church stands out for its architecture and history, being the venue for traditional festivals in August.

The opening of this Royal Road to Campeche in 1790 by Governor Lucas de Gálvez, which passed through San Juan and La Ermita, gave the neighborhood great economic and urban vitality.

It is famous for its festivities in August, which include guilds and cattle drives. It is believed that the Panucho, the emblematic Yucatecan snack, was born in this neighborhood. In the 19th century, the site was used as a hospital and later as a headquarters. It is characterized by its masonry houses, narrow streets, a tranquil atmosphere, and an active local market.

Casa Luciérnagas is colonial and modernist in style, featuring an entrance with a double-height ceiling of 5.30 meters, artisanal pasta floors, and handmade mosaic decorations in the kitchen, bathrooms, and terrace designed with 4 unique models, giving it a beautiful touch. The original walls and ceilings were preserved, the exposed walls with proper maintenance, the latticework and pasta floors are unique works as they were designed by the architects, the countertops and sinks were forged and poured by the team, and the original beams and joists of the ceiling were preserved; it is a work of artisanal art.

The bedrooms overlook the gardens and the pool with floor-to-ceiling glass windows, which is the central point of the house and provides lighting, freshness, and tranquility. The existing vegetation was respected, adapted to the terrain, and the house is spacious and comfortable, all on one floor.

It is located 1 block from San Sebastián Park, two blocks from the ADO CAME terminal with routes to all of Mexico, and 5 blocks from the hermitage.
