Living in Coapa

Coapa is a historic zone in the far south of the city; its name comes from Nahuatl and is usually translated as "place of snakes." Today it combines colonias and residential complexes with everyday life closely tied to its own services: around avenues like Acoxpa and Miramontes there are shopping centers, supermarkets, schools and restaurants, while areas like Granjas Coapa and Ex-Hacienda Coapa keep streets with a more residential feel. Alameda del Sur adds one of the zone's main open spaces and reinforces that mix of housing, commerce and everyday activities without having to leave Coapa.

What to consider before renting

Coapa spans colonias and complexes with different layouts, from housing developments and gated subdivisions to streets with individual houses. Acoxpa, Canal de Miramontes, Calzada del Hueso and División del Norte work as some of its main connecting routes, so proximity to these roads changes commute times and access to shops and services. The age of construction also varies between sectors: areas developed in different periods sit side by side within Coapa, so the type of building and its relationship to the main avenues can vary quite a bit from one colonia to another.
